YOUR COMMITMENT HELPS

The Acting Company is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization originally incorporated under the name Group I Acting Company, Inc. Federal Tax ID #13-2759292.

Two generations of Americans have been introduced to great theater through The Acting Company in communities all across the country and in our home town of New York City. Contributions by those who believe in the importance of theater in our culture and the need to extend it to communities that lack access to professional productions, make the magic of live performance available to more than 20,000 people each year.  Our education tour reach as many as 5,000 students in New York City and our in-school residencies and educator workshops reach students across the country.

As a nonprofit organization, gifts from individuals and institutional supporters underwrite approximately 80% of the Company’s annual operating budget and enable us to create critically acclaimed productions and offer nationally recognized education programs. Nationwide, The Acting Company is known for artistic excellence and educational innovation—made possible because of support from people like you.

In 1972, a busload of then unknown actors—Kevin Kline, Patti LuPone, David Schramm, David Ogden Stiers and others—left New York for small towns across America, determined to bring the classics to those who had never before seen a live performance, and hoping to establish their careers through the experience of playing a wide range of roles on the road and in repertory.

Each year since, a new group of young actors takes that same journey, embracing challenging roles in the work of the world’s great playwrights and new plays that extend classically-inspired work into our modern times. Over 400 of the finest performers of stage, television and film have followed in the footsteps of that first group, including Rainn Wilson, Frances Conroy, Jeffrey Wright, Harriet Harris, Keith David, Hamish Linklater, Roslyn Ruff, Jesse L. Martin and more. We have also premiered over a dozen new works and adaptations from our country's foremost contemporary writers, including Pulitzer Prize winners Beth Henley, Lynn Nottage,Tony Kushner, and Wendy Wasserstein, and such esteemed writers as Ntozake Shange, John Guare, Eric Bogosian, Rebecca Gilman, David Mamet, Maria Irene Fornes, Charles Smith, and Marcus Gardley.

You can help to ensure that this essential work continues. Contributions at all levels are welcomed and assist in maintaining and extending the work of this unique theater. Please visit other pages in this section to learn more about our Patrons program, our Associates program for younger audiences in New York, our Special Giving Opportunities for underwriting programs and projects that nurture and expand The Acting Company.

General support, however, is the lifeblood of our organization and keeps us performing and teaching—in New York, on tour, and in the schools.  We need and invite your participation and encourage you to contribute today.
