Fall Gala - October 17

On October 17, The Acting Company honored J. BARCLAY COLLINS and MARK LAMOS. The Honorable Thomas Keane presented the Joan M. Warburg Humanitarian Award to Mr. Collins and Richard Thomas presented the John Houseman Award Mr. Lamos at The Metropolitan Club in NYC.

J. Barclay Collins received the Joan M. Warburg Humanitarian Award for his philanthropic leadership. Barclay has been a life-long committed volunteer leader in healthcare, education, the arts, environmentalism and historic preservation fields. He is the chairman of the board of trustees of both the United Hospital Fund of New York and the Mystic Seaport Museum in Connecticut, and trustee for the Brooklyn Hospital Foundation, New York Botanical Garden, and Cary Institute of Ecosystems Studies. Barclay has also served on The Acting Company’s Board of Directors for many years, including as Chairman of our Development Committee. Previous Warburg Award recipients include Harry Belafonte, Barbara Fleischman, and the Honorable Thomas Kean.

Richard Thomas presented Mark Lamos with the John Houseman Award for his outstanding commitment to developing and employing generations of the finest classical actors. A regular director with The Acting Company (The Gilded Age, Love’s Fire), Mark has had a distinguished career directing on and off Broadway, and at the country’s leading regional theaters. He spent 16 seasons as Artistic Director of Hartford Stage, for which he accepted the Tony Award in 1989. He has served as Artistic Director of the Westport Country Playhouse since 2009. Mark has given many young actors their start and has continually employed Acting Company alumni in his visually brilliant and poetically rich productions.  The John Houseman Award has been presented to James Bundy, James Earl Jones, Bernard Gersten, Jack O’Brien, Joe Papp, Harold Prince, Marian Seldes, and Tony Randall among others.
