A Special Statement
All of us at The Acting Company join in solidarity with our artists, audiences and community to condemn and call for an end to systemic racism and unjust violence against Black Americans. We are angered by the racism and white supremacy that has led to the deaths of countless Black and Brown people. We stand with everyone seeking justice for the murders of Tony McDade, George Floyd, Nina Pop, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Sean Reed, and all victims of racist violence. Black Lives Matter.
We are not innocent of perpetuating systemic racism. As a classical theater, we’ve often told stories by white men that have subjugated people of color and left their stories unheard. Our public platform can and must be used to elevate their perspectives, and our other actions, such as expanding diversity across our organization and in the stories we tell, need to back this up.
We have to and will do better and become proactive in making change, not simply reactive when it is fashionable or part of popular public opinion.
