Over 37 years … Touring and Teaching.

Imagine a bus load of unknown actors – named Kevin Kline, Patti LuPone, David Ogden Stiers and David Schramm – leaving New York for small towns across America, determined to bring the classics to those who had never before seen a live performance. Hoping, as well, to establish their careers through the experience of playing a wide range of roles on the road and in repertory.

Our 37th company of young actors is currently on that same journey, traveling over 16,000 miles to dozens of cities in more than 30 states, bringing with them the work of Edgar Allen Poe, Jeffrey Hatcher, and William Shakespeare. In between, those buses have been filled with some of the finest future performers – 300 of them – of theater, television and film, including Frances Conroy, Jeffrey Wright and Jesse L. Martin. The mission is the same, to develop the finest actors and an increased audience through presentation of outstanding productions and unique theater-arts education programs.

As we launch our 38th year, we seek to expand these programs – especially our Literacy Through Theater weeklong artistic residencies, which we hope to extend to all of the 50 communities we reach each season. The Acting Company has performed before millions of people in 48 American states and nine foreign countries. Your support will help ensure our continuation as America’s only national touring repertory theater and arts education program – most of which are offered free or at very low cost, enriching the lives of students from middle school through college.

Keep The Acting Company on the road and in the schools …

We rely on support from people who understand the purpose and value of our work to help this national theater without walls to reach small and disadvantaged communities all across America.

Your tax-deductible contribution to The Acting Company:

  • helps us transform the visions of critically acclaimed directors and designers into theatrical splendor

  • enables us to keep the classics fresh and to give first voice to important new works

  • inspires our artists to do their best work night after night in town after town, giving our audiences experiences they will remember and treasure for years

  • increases our ability to reach greater numbers of disadvantaged students and communities

By joining our growing family of friends and patrons throughout the country, you are helping to ensure that The Acting Company remains a benchmark of excellence in the American theater for another 36 years.
