The Company of 1975 with
John Houseman and Margot Harley |
Imagine a bus load of unknown actors – named Kevin Kline, Patti LuPone,
David Ogden Stiers, Mary Lou Rosato and David Schramm – leaving New
York for small towns across America, determined to bring the classics
to those who had never before seen a live performance. Hoping, as
well, to establish their careers through the experience of playing a
wide range of roles on the road and in repertory.
In January, our
37th company of young actors left on a journey of over 14,000 miles to
dozens of cities in more than 18 states, bringing with them the work
of Orson Welles and William Shakespeare. The mission is the same,
to develop the finest actors and an increased audience through
presentation of outstanding productions and unique theater-arts
education programs.
As we launch our 38th season, we ask you to help
us expand our programs – especially our
Literacy Through Theater
weeklong artistic residencies, which we hope to extend to all of the
40 communities we reach each season. The Acting Company has
performed before millions of people in 48 American states and nine
foreign countries. Your special support during this celebratory year
will ensure our continuation as America’s only national touring
repertory theater and arts education program. |
